Onam Celebration and Onasadhya 2006

This year Thiru Onam falls on the 5th September 2006. I'm sure most of the Malayalee families would have celebrated it with their family with joy. Here at Kajang, Hulu Langat District, the Hulu Langat Malayalee Sanghadana (HLMS) celebrated it with our community around this district. About 200 people attended this function that we call Onam Celebration and Onasadhya 2006.

We started with the Attapoo Competition by 3 groups of ladies. Each group consist of 5 people. The creativity and dedication of each team is clearly shown as the preparation is done much earlier. I like the new design by the younger group. Good work girls.

Then we also had colouring competition for children below 7 years old. Followed by Blind Folded game for the children between 7- 12 years with their parent. As for the teenagers, dressing compettition with old newspaper was very interesting. It's nice to see the younger generation come forward and participate in cultural festivals.

The game then continues with Couple game where the couples were ask similar questions. This game would have given the opportunity for them to know each other better. At least they will now notice each others likings and dislikes.

The final game was Adults Open and we had 3 groups of 15 people in each team. A message in Malayalam was passed down the line and as usual we will get diffirent answer from one end to the other end. Well, this shows how important listening skills is in an effective communication.

Every participants received gifts and there were lucky draws too. Wow! gift, gift and gift....

During the lunch hour, Onasadhya were served by the committee members. Banana leaf and 10 types of Kerala dishes including Ollan, Thoran, Kaalan, Parruppu and Ghee, Sambar, Upperi, Prataman, Pappadam and lots more... Yummy! Yummy!

Everybody who came that day, returned home with satisfaction and we hope to meet in another celebration to keep the Malayalee community close.

Wishing All Onam Ashamsakal

Till next time, signing off,

Renu
